Catherine Ford, born in Bloomsbury (London) She was raised by her mother, grandmother, and godparents. Her father abandoned her family. Ford was suffering from anxiety disorder based on the word association when she was a teenager. Ford started to become attracted to acting as a teenager and enrolled in the National Youth Theatre. Ford was accepted into the Sylvia Young Theatre School. But after just a few days, she realized that Sylvia Young Theatre School was not the right place right for her. Ford rather applied to the Central School of Speech and Drama which she was eventually able to get an acceptance on her fourth attempt. Shaun Dingwall was one of Ford's classmates. Shaun Dingwall was later to play frequent roles on the show as Pete Tyler and Doctor Who. Ford graduated in 1993. However, she already made a TV appearance in a 1992 episode of Surgical Spirit. She adopted the name Catherine Tate. Through the Nineties, Tate could be seen on television in programmes such as The Bill, Men Behaving Badly and London's Burning. Tate also regularly worked in theatre and eventually joined the Royal Shakespeare Company during its season 2000-2001. Tate became famous for her stand-up comedies that were added to Tate's repertoire in 1996.
